A unique solution to traveler accommodation & student housing
Amsterdam has a huge student housing problem. With the concept of opening up a large part of their hotel rooms to students during the school period, Hotel Casa 400 responds to this problem in a very clever and innovative way. The concept itself is already about 50 years old, but it was only commercialised a few years ago. But don’t expect a (worn out) student dorm when you stay at this hotel. Nothing is further from the truth. The hotel is modern, clean and has a light and airy feel to it with lots of windows, letting in natural light. You also don’t have to be afraid of an invasions of students – or noise from them – as they are accommodated in a separate part of the building with a separate entrance.
In the main hall, Hotel Casa 400 offers the use of iPads and a printer so that you can check in for your flight and print of your boarding ticket, for instance. There is also a piano in the main hall, which is regularly used by conservatory students to play a tune.
Restaurant Circles on the ground floor serves dishes with international influences in a casual setting. In bar Upstairs – on the first floor – you can enjoy a drink and a small snack in the late afternoon and evening. Hotel Casa 400 also offers thirteen conference rooms with state of the art presentation facilities The meeting rooms vary in size and the removable walls can be adjusted to accommodate groups of up to a couple of hundred people.
The hotel features underground on-site parking, bicycle rental and packed lunch services. Amstel station is less than a 5-minute walk from Hotel Casa 400 and offers connections to Museum Square, the city centre and Waterlooplein Square.
Hotel Casa 400 ticks almost all of the conscious boxes
We have given Hotel Casa 400 quite high scores, even though they are not 100% sustainable or use 100% organic products. However, the hotel takes a lot of sustainable measures in order to save energy and water; such as their climate control system with a hot and cold storage system, making air conditioning obsolete.
The hotel has been awarded the Gold Green Key certification for a couple of years in a row now. They train and instruct their staff on environmental policies, review all progress concerning environmental issues by setting up monitoring programs. They also try to reduce waste as much as possible and reuse or recycled wherever this is possible.
Furthermore the restaurants work with organic products and they try to reduce the amount of packaging as far as this is possible with hygiene in mind. We also want to reward the social concept regarding the housing of students in Hotel Casa 400 and their commitment to a charity.
