Description

Brouwerij ‘t IJ is a local brewery and beer tasting room. All beers are locally brewed in Amsterdam on two different locations. At one of these locations you will find the beer tasting room. Also part of the brewery is windmill ‘De Gooyer’, the highest wooden windmill in the Netherlands. It’s an easy landmark to focus on, when on your way to brewery, Brouwerij ‘t IJ.

The most popular beers are 100% organic

This quirky brewery used to brew only organic beers in a traditional way. The traditions stayed, but nowadays they only have an 100% organic certification on a few (very) popular standard beers, such as Natte, Zatte and Columbus. This mainly has to do with the sensitivity of the hops that is used for beer. All the beers from Brouwerij ‘t IJ are unpasteurised and unfiltered. They have standard beers, seasonal beers and special beers for a specific occasion. But a lot of their beers never make it out of the brewery, because it is served in their pub and tasting room.

Brouwerij ‘t IJ serves snacks from butcher, Slagerij De Wit and from local farm Dikhoeve. Butcher De Wit only uses locally grown animals and uses the animal from head to tail, nothing is wasted. Farm Dikhoeve is a sheep farm for the production of milk. They have been certified as organic since 2003.

The tasting room and terrace are open every day from 15.00 to 20.00. Guided tours of the brewery are available on Friday, Saturday and Sunday on 15.30 hours (EN) and 16.00 hours (NL).

Local products, partly organic

The most popular beers of Brouwerij ‘t IJ are 100% organic. The other beers are not allowed to be called organic, as the hop is not organic. Both beer ingredients as snacks are locally sourced, obtained from local, well-known suppliers, such as butcher, Slagerij de Wit, and farm, Boerderij Dikhoeve.
