Description
Cafe-Restaurant De Ysbreeker is situated in a beautiful, historic building on the bank of the Amstel. This Amsterdam institution (since 1702) offers an enormous terrace under the shade of beautiful trees. The menu is for the most part seasonal, but old time favourites such as their rib eye, the De Ysbreeker burger, fish soup and the Caesar salad are available year round. Open for breakfast from 8am.
Organic food served up by environmentally conscious chefs
Cafe-Restaurant De Ysbreeker serves organic food and their chefs pay particular attention to environmentally sustainable practices in the kitchen. Thankfully they are early risers at De Ysbreeker. They are one of the few places in Amsterdam that offers breakfast from 08.00am – even on Saturdays & Sundays! Besides breakfast they serve lunch, dinner and drinks. Prices are very reasonable.
De Ysbreeker has one of the best terraces in Amsterdam
The terrace of De Ysbreeker is divided into two parts. A smaller terrace, adjoining the building and open almost the whole year round. The second and larger part of the terrace is on the opposite side of the street, under the trees offering excellent people watching and the comfort of cooling breezes. The trees provide welcome shade in the height of Summer and this terrace is one of the best in Amsterdam. It is a beautiful place to spend your time and enjoy your coffee, meal or drinks.
One quirky think that I love about De Ysbreeker is that they offer a free bicycle pump, to guests and passers by. The restaurant is on a main cycle route into and out of the city, so it is the perfect place to stop for a drink and, if in need, pump up your tyres!
De Ysbreeker was renovated in 2010 and the interior was upgraded comprehensively giving it a sophisticated, but comfortable atmosphere.
Organic food and sustainable cooking practices
Offering organic food, prepared by chefs that are aware of their impact on the environment and hence observe sustainable cooking practices.
De Ysbreeker chefs are aware that it simply is not feasible for all small, local farmers and suppliers to be sustainably certified, due to the costs involved, but they also understand, that this does not prevent them from observing sustainable and environmentally friendly practices in delivering their organic produce. We appreciate their honesty in this regard.
