Open Garden Days

17, 18 & 19 June

Did you think that the city centre of Amsterdam only consists of canal houses? Think again! What you normally don’t see is that these majestic canal houses have beautiful, lush gardens at the back. They are an oasis of peace and beauty. On the Open Tuinen Dagen (Open Garden Days), around 25 private gardens open up their ‘gates’ to the public. For some of the gardens it is the first time that they participate in this yearly event.

Instock events

Friday 17  and Saturday 18 June

Ever had beer made out of potatoes? Whether you are on vacation or at work, some traditions you just need to continue: the Friday Afternoon Drinks. So if the answer to our question is “No”, then we suggest you had to Instock for their newly brewed potato beer (pieper bier) and BBQ party on Friday afternoon. If beer and/or a barbecue is not for you, then you can always attend the Chef’s Breakfast table, Saturday morning. Instock uses ‘saved ingredients’ for their creative and delicious dishes. Every day they pass by supermarkets to collect products that would otherwise be thrown away. You will be amazed what they do with ‘food waste’.

New photo exhibitions at Foam and Huis Marseille

10-17 June to 4 September

In case you don’t know yet: we are photography lovers. So when our two favourite photography museums in Amsterdam open a new exhibition, it draws our attention. Foam opens this weekend with a retrospective of the work of Helmut Newton. Newton is known for his iconic, sometimes erotic photos of strong women. This exhibition shows 200 of his photos, ranging from early prints that rarely go on display to monumental photos. Huis Marseille opened an exhibition of Stephen Shore, last week. This exhibition shows the wide variety of Stephen Shore’s work, ranging from urban scenes to every day lives to the rural areas of America.

NeighbourFood Market

Saturday 18 & Sunday 19 June

Foodies and flea market enthousiasts better head to Westerpark this weekend. NeighbourFood Market is on again! This artisanal food market is held every third weekend of the month. The market offers a platform for artisanal producers and cooks, to show and sell their preferably locally produced and organic food, to the public. This weekend they also have a flea market where you can browse – and hopefuly find – great vintage items. The market is indoors and outdoors (depending on the weather).
