Rollende Keukens
12 – 16 May
We hesitated to put Rollende Keukens (Rolling Kitchens) on our weekend calendar, as the last editions were SO crazy busy that it got a bit too much (for us at least). But we’ve decided that this food truck event is too good and too yummy to let pass by. Not all the food trucks offer organic or sustainable food, but there is still plenty to choose from. Because of the long weekend in Amsterdam (it’s Pentecost this weekend) this edition of Rollende Keukens is four days long.

Vondelpark Openluchttheater
2 May – 25 September
Throughout the summer months, there are free concerts, performances and demonstrations in the Open Air Theatre of Vondelpark. Saturday and Sunday are reserved for the Kwaku Summer Festival, an exotic music and food festival. Here you can get acquainted with delicious food of Java, Surinam, Antilles and other Dutch-Caribbean food, while listening to – and dancing on – kawina, reggae and salsa. On Monday you can enjoy new talent on the Club Vondel Talent Day, with a mix of music styles.

Last weekend of the Keukenhof!
Till Monday 16 May
A special mention for the Tulip Spring Gardens, De Keukenhof, as it is the last weekend for this season. And even though it will be crazy busy, we recommend you going, as the tulips are still in full bloom and the gardens look stunning!

For when you get too cold: go to the cinema
Every day of the year
After some great weather over the last few weeks, the temperature drops significantly this weekend. Therefore we included the tip to go to the cinema for when you want to escape the cold. Our favourite cinemas are De Filmhallen and The Movies. The latter is the oldest cinema in Amsterdam (1912), the former the newest (2014 – and big sister of The Movies). We might see you there…
